What’s happening Shaka Squad!
What do you do?
I am performer, singer songwriter, freelance performance technique coach and dance teacher, founder of the Shaka Squad and, as of late, a vocal mentor at RADA!
How did you get to where you are?
I started as a Stagecoach Leicester kid from the age of 5 where I did my first ever child actor gig with Shakespeare 4 Kidz. Ever since then the idea of this becoming a career was set.
I went on to take part in a Curve community production of West Side Story. I completed my training at Brooksby Melton College and achieved my MT National Diploma to then move onto training in London on a one year ‘intensive’ which gave me the opportunity to train in New York too!
I graduated at 19 and have had a very eclectic career since. With my writing, it has been an on-going thing in regards to the Squad. After many years of teaching across the UK I wanted to see if what I bring in the room could transcend the realms of Zoom and now, a year later, I can say - it does!
Why do you love what you do?
Seeing the growth and development in confidence in my squanders has been like no other. Watching people settle into their own sparkle and shake off any fear to just exist in their being inspires me to create even more.
Being a voice for them to relate to and a sound or connection forming without knowing each other is special.
It’s where it all started.
Never forget the mouth that fed you, never forget where you started. Being able to use my students, who were training here, in a music video was of upmost importance. Coming home from tours is always something I look forward to. Representing what LC has to offer!
With new music on the horizon, both solo and some collaborations, I am ready to share a new age of Shaka Music, always looking to collab with like minded souls in my hometown.
My Squad classes will continue with pop-up sessions on the horizon IN A STUDIO!!
What Happened, Miss Simone? (the Nina Simone film on Netflix) is incredible.
I would also recommend Life Lessons from Remarkable Women by Stylist Magazine!
